Cosplaying is one of my favorite parts of comic-con. It is so exciting entering a convention and seeing your favorite characters walk around together wearing backpacks and looking at art. While I haven’t personally cosplayed before, I’ve been considering how one would go about starting thanks to all of the wonderful cosplayers in our "Cosplayer Spotlight" section.
However, when it comes to cosplaying, it can sometimes feel a bit intimidating. You’ll find yourself asking questions like "where do I start?" and "will I even be comfortable in this?". Because of that, I’ve compiled a few cosplays ideas that are simple, comfortable, and will help you stand out at comic-con! Remember, you don’t need to be a seasoned cosplayer to enjoy cosplay. Everyone starts somewhere. Why not start now?
In the lists below, I’ll be giving you some outfit ideas for certain characters from Marvel that don’t require you to walk around in Spandex all day (you're welcome). For more character-accurate articles of clothing, I’ll link you to the product that I find to be best. Beyond that, run wild with your imagination. Cosplay is a form of self-expression and you can do whatever you want to bring your characters to life!
Carol Danvers
· Blue Jeans
· Leather Jacket or Plaid Flannel (optional)
Just like Nick Fury said, Carol Danvers looks good in grunge. That’s exactly the look we’re going for here. This look is simple and very versatile. You can switch up a bunch of different styles for this one. One style would be blue jeans, a Nine Inch Nails shirt, a S.H.I.E.L.D. hat, and a flannel wrapped around your waist. Another would be to replace the flannel with a leather jacket and wear that instead. Or you could forgo the flannel and jacket altogether and just wear the shirt!
This look is so iconic and the Nine Inch Nails shirt paired with the S.H.I.E.L.D. hat will definitely show others that you’re a photon-blasting power-house taking a day off to visit comic-con!
Bruce Banner
· Blue T-Shirt
· Cardigan
· Black Pants
· Green Skin Paint
I know, I know. We were all a bit bummed that we didn’t get to see the Hulk come out for a majority of Avengers: Infinity War but hey, one good thing came out of it – an easy Bruce Banner cosplays! This cosplay is super fun and super simple because you get to paint your skin (or part of it, at least). Like Bruce Banner in Avengers: Infinity War, this cosplay allows you to unleash part of your inner Hulk. Dress up in Bruce Banner’s simple outfit and then feel free to streak some green paint along your hands, neck, and head. This cosplay was actually inspired by Bruce Banner’s Funko! Pop which is one of my favorite Funko! Pops of all time. The green paint of this cosplay is key and please, run wild with it. We all know the Hulk would!
Tony Stark
· Jeans
· Blazer
About two years ago, I dressed up as Tony Stark when I went on a cruise. Sounds weird, I know, but it was Halloween night and I wanted someone easy to dress up as. Behold, a nice and simple Tony Stark costume! For this costume, I wore jeans and a black blazer with an Iron Man arc reactor t-shirt underneath. I paired this with Tony Stark’s iconic red sunglasses and a terribly done black eyeliner beard that I penciled in. While it was simple, the arc reactor and the glasses were enough to have people saying “hey, Mr. Stark!” as I passed by.

Scarlet Witch
· Black dress
· Knee-High Black Socks
Scarlet Witch’s outfit in Avengers: Age of Ultron is probably the easiest to recreate out of all of her outfits. After all, who would want to run around in a leather corset all day? Not me! But if you’re a fan of Wanda Maximoff, this outfit is a nice recreation of her origins in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For this cosplay, you might want to spice it up with some jewelry or eyeliner to really give it that Wanda Maximoff punch, but otherwise, it’s a fun cosplay that will have you feeling like you could really crush the heart of an evil super robot!
BONUS! PARTNER COSPLAY!
Thor & Loki
Thor
· Jeans
· Green T-Shirt
· Black Zip-Up Hoodie
· Denim Jacket
· Umbrella (optional)
Loki
· Black Suit…yes that’s it
You probably panicked when you saw these two pop up. Uh, no! I’m not dressing up in metal armor and capes…as cool as that would be. I wouldn’t subject you to that chafing. For these cosplays, you’ll be showing up as Thor and Loki when they visit Earth – ahem, Midgard – in Thor: Ragnarok. I really like the idea of doing this one with a friend because Thor and Loki are so iconic together. Most of the items that can be found in these cosplays are pretty commonly owned as well, making them a nice last minute costume to throw together for you and your best friend, your brother, or your mortal enemy (sometimes).
