5. Which comic-cons have you cosplayed at?

Cosplayed at every convention I've been to, but only started cosplaying about 2-3 years ago.

6. Who is your favorite person to cosplay as?

          Marvel Loki

7. Who have you cosplayed as?

Marvel Loki (3 versions; Lady Loki, Agent of Asgard and Ragnarok), Captain Marvel, Catra from Netflix She-ra Reboot, Zelda from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Rey from Star Wars: Force Awakens, Kayo from Ken ga Kimi

8. Which cosplay that you made was your favorite?

My Agent of Asgard Loki cosplay; it was my first full build with foam armor work so I was really proud how it came out.

9. What materials do you use to make your cosplays?

I use a lot of locally owned fabric stores around me, since they usually have things that JoAnns doesn't.  I still use my local JoAnns too. I use high density EVA foam from tntcosplaysupply, and thermoplatics from micromark. Fabrics really depend on what’s needed for the cosplay, but I like natural fabrics like linens, cottons and wools.

10. Can you walk me through making one of your cosplays?

I always start by finding references. Whether its screenshots from movies, shows, comics, I compile a whole bunch either in a pinterest board or in a folder on my laptop/phone. Even for original designs, like my Norse Loki, I look up references and inspiration that I want to put into the design. From there I look for patterns that I can use directly from the envelope, or frankenstein into what I need it to be. Sometimes there just won’t be a pattern made of what you want something to look like, so you have to make your own. I always make a mockup out of cheap fabric or sheets from thrift stores to see if a pattern fits the way I want it to. 9 times out of 10 it won’t and I’ll need to make adjustments. Shopping for fabric is a process, because I’m texture sensitive! So I always need to feel the fabric before I can use it. Online shopping can be a hassle with this, so I always order from sites that offer samples. Once I have fabric, I start making the costume! Depending on the costume and what needs to be done, I’ll multi-task. If I’m painting armor, and the paint needs to dry before I can do the next layer, I’ll go sew for a bit, and then go back to painting. A little of this and a little of that until the cosplay is finished! Hopefully in time for a convention without too much crunching the week before.

11. Do you have any future cosplay plans?

I always have ideas for cosplays, but not all of them get made! Sometimes before I can get around to making an idea, I move onto another fandom, or something else grabs my attention more. So sometimes the cosplans fluctuate. Right now, my plans are to finish a historical 12 layer kimono like court women of Heian Japan would wear, and Edith Cushing’s Nancy Drew dress from Crimson Peak.

12. What does cosplay mean to you and why do you cosplay?

I cosplay because it’s fun and it’s a great way to make friends. I can express myself and learn new things from each costume, and adding personal touches to designs are what make each person’s costume unique. I’d love to use my cosplay to give back eventually, doing charity work in costume.

13. What is your favorite part or aspect of cosplaying?

Making friends and showing off finished details. There’s something really fun about meeting up with other cosplayers at cons, and then just asking each other how they did something on their costumes.

14. Do you have a cosplay inspiration?

Some cosplayers I really look up to are @silhouettecosplay @cowbuttcrunchies @kamuicosplay @worldwideblonde on Instagram

15. Do you have any advice for aspiring cosplayers?

Even if something looks above your skill level: do it anyway! You’ll learn more skills that way by trying, failing, and trying again.  Even if it’s not your best work, you can always remake it in the future when your skills are better. Be proud of everything you make, because everyone starts somewhere.
